Science Fiction -2020s
In the second decade of the third millennium, a new, rapidly maturing technology changed the face of modeling: 3D printing. Although "additive" technology had been around for decades, the development of small, affordable 3D printers as well as liquid resin (SLA) printing not only made it possible for garage kit makers to quickly and affordably create detailed masters from CAD files, but modelers could now print their own models at home, eliminating garage kit makers altogether. (Of course, someone still had to create the CAD models and printing files.)
Many of the kits on this page were either printed wholly in 3D or built from kits that included 3D printed pieces.
