Science Fiction - 1940s
World War II and its aftermath put a significant damper on popular science fiction. While the Great Depression of the 1930s had created a nationwide demand for escapism, the War turned the public's mood deadly serious as freedom itself fought for survival against the forces of global tyranny. With millions dying overseas, this was little time to think about rockets-to-the-moon.
