Pathfinder Atomic-Powered Space Shuttle
from "For All Mankind" (Apple+) (2019-?)
About the Design
Introduced in Season 2 of the acclaimed APPLE+ alternative-history series "For All Mankind," Pathfinder was a second-generation space shuttle designed to transport humans and cargo from the Earth to lunar orbit. The craft was air-launched off the back of a specially-modified Boeing 747. Conventional chemical rockets provided initial power, after which a NERVA atomic-powered engine boosted the craft to escape velocity.
Soon after operations began, Pathfinder was moved from NASA command to that of the U.S. Air Force, which armed it with weapons so it could escort Sea Dragon cargo rockets to America's Jamestown lunar colony. |
