U.S.S. Discovery
from "Star Trek: Discovery" (2017 - ?)
About the Design
The centerpiece of CBS All Access' flagship series, the U.S.S. Discovery was a dedicated science vessel operated by the United Federation of Planets in the years between the "Star Trek: Enterprise" and "Star Trek" (TOS) series. In addition to traditional warp drive, the Discovery was equipped with an experimental "Spore Drive" that allowed it to access an organic subspace "mycelium network" and travel to any point in space instantenously.
The Discovery's design was based on illustrations done in 1977 by celebrated sci-fi conceptual artist Ralph McQuarrie for "Star Trek: The Motion Picture," a design that was, at the time, rejected as being too radical a departure from the Matt Jefferies original. |
About the Kit
This 1:2500 scale plastic kit was a "snap-together" product designed for beginning modelers. The kit came with highly detailed "wallpaper" decals that allowed the builder to construct a very handsome display model with minimal painting. Decals were also provided for the Discovery's sister ship, the U.S.S. Glenn, as well as its "Mirror Universe" counterpart.
The kit was one of three 1:2500 "Star Trek: Discovery" kits released by Polar Lights in 2017, the others being the U.S.S. Shenzhou and the U.S.S. Enterprise. |
