About the Design
"Get your ass to Mars!" a recording of secret agent Douglas Quaid (Arnold Schwarzenegger) tell his re-activated self in Paul Verhoeven's 1990's Total Recall, from the novel by Philip K. Dick. And so Quaid does, aboard the briefly seen Mars 1 spaceliner.
The CGI-rendered spacecraft was created out of a 3D mesh created by the film's conceptual artist, Ron Cobb, the sci-fi visionary who contributed to dozens of films in the 1970s, 1980s, and 1990s. Key to the spaceliner's design were its rotating engines, which allowed it to land horizontally like a conventional airplane. |
