About the Design
The Time Travelers is a 1964 American International Pictures B-movie that follows the adventures of four scientists whose experiments with a "time viewer" accidentally transports them to the post-apocalyptic world of 2071. There, they find the survivors of an earlier nuclear war and their android servants frantically attempting to build an "ark" to take humanity's remnants to the Alpha Centauri system. Unfortunately, the giant spacecraft is destroyed during an mutant army invasion before it can be launched.
Simple in design -- as befits the film's low budget -- the Ark is one of cinema's last V-2 inspired tail-sitting rocketships. This now-dated ethos would be replaced by the more functional spacecraft seen in the contemporaneous "Robinson Crusoe on Mars" and four years later in Stanley Kubrick's classic "2001: A Space Odyssey." |
About the Kit
Mastered and cast exclusively for Fantastic Plastic Models by Millennium Models International (MMI), the 1:288 "Ark" was the sixth entry in FFP's 1:288 "Classic Rocketship Series." Released in July 2022, it was a fairly simple all-resin kit that came complete with a circular display stand.
This model was built from an original issue. |
