Syndrome's Velocipod
from Pixar's "The Incredibles" (2004)
About the Design
Pixar's "The Incredibles" was a brilliant, highly satirical mash-up of modern superhero and classic James Bond tropes. Among the cliches the film deconstructed was the "Super Villian's Island Lair," the requisite secret base patrolled by a small army of equally requisite nameless, faceless henchmen armed with the latest in high-tech weaponry -- including the "Velocipod," a one-man helicopter/flying saucer hybrid with tilting outer blades that gaved it tremendous speed and maneuverability.
The Velocipods were most memorably showcased in an extended chase sequence during which they pursued the young Dashiell "Dash" Parr through the treacherous swamps that surrounded super-villian Syndrome's fortified HQ. |
About the Kit
The 1/24 Velicipod kit was released by Fantastic Plastic Models in 2016. The kit was patterned by hand by Ed Holt and cast by BLAP! Models. The kit included the option of a "spinning" or "fixed" outer ring that could also tilt. It also featured two in-scale figures, a "Henchman" pilot and a running "Dash" Parr.
