About the Design
"Stardust" was the hero ship of the 1956 British science-fiction classic, "Satellite in the Sky." A sleek, bullet-shaped spacecraft with tail-mounted engines and retractable wings, the ship was rail-launched horizontally, the same technique employed in 1953's "When Worlds Collide" and later in Gerry Anderson's "Fireball XL5."
This was actually a two-stage spacecraft, although the "1st stage" consisted of nothing more than the original engine exhaust assembly. |
