About the Design

First appearing in a classic overhead flyby during the opening scene in George Lucas' 1977 "Star Wars" (aka "Star Wars - Episode IV: A New Hope"), the Imperial Star Destroyer quickly became the signature vessel for the evil Galactic Empire. Its distinctive wedge shape, towering command bridge and greeblie-covered hull combined elements of 20th century naval vessels with the heavily detailed sci-fi ethos established in Stanley Kubrick's 1968 "2001: A Space Odyssey" and Douglas Trumball's 1972 "Silent Running." 

About the Kit

Released in 2019, this was one of many well-engineered officially licensed "Star Wars" kits Japan's Bandai released during the second decade off the 21st century. Essentially a "snap together" kit, it required little gluing or finessing on the part of the modeler. Available in both lighted and un-lighted versions, the kit came with a display stand that included in-scale mini-models of the Rebel Blockade Runner (aka "Tantive IV") and the Millennium Falcon.

Its level of detail and fidelity to the original ANH miniature made it far superior to the original MPC kit released almost 40 years earlier.
