Virgin Galactic's SpaceShip 2 & White Knight (2009)
About the Design
Officially known as Scaled Composites Project 339 -- SpaceShip Two is Virgin Galactic's two-part commercial spacecraft system. Part One is the "White Knight," a carrier aircraft consisting of two fuselages joined by a single wing with a pair of jet engines at each end. Between them rides the payload, in this case, the SpaceShip Two, a suborbital rocketplane designed to take tourists on suborbital flights. Based on Scale Composite's SpaceShip One (but twice the size), it's designed to carry six passengers as well as two crewmembers.
Debuted in 2008, SpaceShip Two has so far made only two successful test flights, the latest being on June 25, 2020. It has yet to make a flight into space. Still, hundreds of advanced tickets have been sold at prices ranging from $200,000 to $250,000 each. |
About the Kit
Fantastic Plastic's SpaceShip 2 & White Knight model kit was released just months after the design was made public. Patterned by Scott Lowther, the kit did not come with decals to avoid possible copyright issues.
This model was built from an original issue. |
