Starduster from "Space Angel" (1962-1964)
About the Design
The Starduster, hero ship of Cambria Studios' "Space Angel" series, was one of the last "cigar with wings"-style rocketships featured in a TV series or movies. Designed by comic book legend Alex Toth, the ship was a classic rocket-powered "tail-sitter" distinguished by its bug-like oval cockpit windows, canards and massive tail. It was crewed by just three: pilot, engineer/weapons officer and a navigator/communications officer. It was armed with cannons situated in both the nose and tail.
Although powered by a single conventional rocket motor, the Starduster was nonetheless capable of intersteallar flight. (Hey, it was a cartoon!) |
About the Kit
Fantastic Plastic released this Starduster kit, the first screen-accurate model of the classic rocketship ever produced, in the summer of 2016. The kit was designed in CAD by Scott Lowther and cast by Masterpiece Models.
