Soyuz Launch Vehicle & Transporter (1973)
About the Design
Based on the Vostok launcher of the early 1960s -- which was, in turn, based on the 1950s-era R-7 ICBM -- the Soyuz launcher made its first flight in 1966, and was then upgraded in 1973. The rocket remains in use today, making it the most successful launch vehicle of all time.
Unlike the American Saturn V and Space Shuttles, all of which were assembled and transported vertically to their launch sites, the Soyuz was moved to its launch facility horizontally via a specially designed railcar transporter. |
About the Kit
Released in 2018 by GoodSmile Company of Japan, this 1:150 scale plastic model kit was very well engineered and detailed. The kit allowed you to build and display the Soyuz launcher in either its horizontal transport mode or in its vertical launch position, but you could not smoothly transition from one to another.
This model was built from an original issue. |
