Romulan Warbird
from "Star Trek: The Next Generation" (1987-1994)
About the Design
The original TOS "Bird of Prey" was little more than a boot heel with two stubby wings and a pair of warp nacelles slapped to its side. By contrast, this massive Warbird -- first seen in ST:TNG's first season closer "The Neutral Zone" -- had a look and texture that was uniquely its own.
Original plans called for the ship's "wings" to be arranged vertically, with the warp engines at the top and bottom, but it was ultimately decided to proceed with this more traditional aerodynamic configuration. |
About the Kit
The Romulan Warbird was initially released as part of a three-piece "Adversary" set that also included a Ferrengi Marauder and a Klingon Bird-of-Prey. Two decades later it was re-released as a stand-alone kit.
There is some dispute as to the kit's scale. The original release had it as 3730. However, in the re-release, the box scaled it at 3200. Such are the verities of science fiction. This model was built from the original 1993 issue. |
