Rocketship

About the Design
Republic Picture's 12-part series, "Commando Cody - Sky Marshall of the Universe" (aka "King of the Rocket Men") is regarded by many as the low point in the studio's long, illustrious history of motion picture "chapter plays." But while its plot-lines were repetitive, its acting wooden, and its dialogue juvenile, the series did boast two memorable spaceships. The first was Cody's ship, a classic "bullet-with-wings" design (It actually resembled a beached penguin) still heavily influenced by 1930's sensibilities. The other was the Martians' spaceship -- which looked just like Cody's, except for some surface add-ons.

About the Kit
The fourth in Herb Deeks' nostalgic "Futures Past" series, the "Space Sheriff Rocketship" (so named to avoid licensing hassles) was a nice-sized, relatively simple resin kit distinguished by its molded-on paint scheme pattern. The kit was issued in the early 1990s.
This kit was purchased and built in 2002. |
