Republic Cruiser
from "Star Wars - Episode 1: The Phantom Menace" (1999)
About the Design
The first major spacecraft seen in George Lucas' 1999 "Star Wars" prequel "The Phantom Menace," the 115-meter-long Republic Cruiser was a relatively unimaginative design that drew heavily from previous "Star Wars" starships, particularly the Rebel Blockade Runner from the original 1977 film. Its uninspiring opening flyby was an unfortunate portent of the lackluster film to come.

About the Kit
In one of its last gasps with its 20-plus-year-old "Star Wars" license, AMT/Ertl issues four mini-"snap" models of otherwise unkitted "Phantom Menace" designs. The models measured only about two inches long and came "pre-decorated," an obvious bow to late 20th Century kids who couldn't be bothered with paint and glue.
This Republic Cruiser, built from an original issue, was enhanced with additional detailing and weathering. |
