Proteus from Fantastic Voyage (1966)
About the Design
Miniaturized and injected into a injured Eastern Bloc scientist's bloodstream so that doctors could destroy an otherwise inoperable blood clot deep within his brain, the Proteus was actually a state-of-the-art deep sea research submarine commandeered by the top secret Combined Miniaturized Deterrent Force (CMDF) for this high-priority mission. Propelled by high-pressure water jets instead of conventional propellers, the sub carried a five-man crew, including the pilot who sat in the dome situated atop the vessel.

About the Kit
This was a simple vacuform kit that featured a clear upper dome and forward observation windows. This same template was later used to produce a resin kit that came with the telescoping landing legs not featured on this earlier vacuform model. Here the landing gear were improvised using pieces from a botched Bandai UFO Interceptor model.
