Northrop Ms-F3 Experimental Lifting Body (1970)
About the Design
First flown at Edwards Air Force Base on June 2, 1970, the M2-F3 lifting body replaced the M2-F2, which had crashed in May 1967. (Actual footage of the crash was seen weekly in the prologue to ABC's "The Six Million Dollar Man.") Adding a third, central tailfin added far greater lateral stability.
In all, the M2-F3 made 27 test flights before being retired in 1972. _

About the Kit
Released in late 2019, the Northrop M2-F3 kit was the second 1:48 scale NASA lifting body kit produced by Fantastic Plastic Models.
The kit was created in CAD by Scott Lowther and cast by Creative Cast Parts. The decals were designed by JBOT and printed by Tango Papa Decals. The model featured a detailed cockpit interior, plus a clear resin cockpit canopy and bubble nose. This model was built from an original issue. |
