About the Design

Although the original Flash Gordon/Zarkov "hero" ship of the 1936 "Flash Gordon" serial was originally built for the 1930 musical sci-fi opus "Just Imagine," this intimidating enemy spacecraft had to be designed and built from scratch. Starting with the basic shape of the Zarkov rocket, the "Ming Bomber" featured a slightly raised cockpit, double-ogive tail skids, a nose cannon and, of course, those super-nifty V-6 exhaust pipes.

While most shots of the filming miniature showed the craft sans markings, others included black pennant-like designs beneath the cockpit windows and on the mid-fuselage.

The "Ming Bomber" appeared in both the original "Flash Gordon" (1936) and the series' third and final entry, "Flash Gordon Conquers the Universe" (1940).

About the Kit

Fantastic Plastic's "Ming Bomber" was released in October 2018. The kit was designed by Alfred Wong and cast by Creative Cast Parts. The main fuselage was roto-cast to held reduce the kit's weight.
