About the Design
The P.1101/92 was one of several early designs developed by Germany's Messerschmitt aviation company in 1944 to play that role of heavy fighter/destroyer (Zerstorer) againt the allies. This was to be a two-seater aircraft, the pilot and co-pilot sitting side-by-side. The plane was to be powered by two Heinkel Hirth He S 0 11 engines slung under the wings. Its main weapon was a BK 7.5 cm cannon offset on the right side of the nose.
As the war turned sharply against the Germans following the June 6 D-Day invasion, all dual-engine fighter development was curtailed in favor of more economical single-engine designs. |
