Starship Liabe from "Message from Space" (1978)
About the Design
"Message from Space" (Japan - 1978) was one of many lower-budget space operas to appear in the wake of "Star Wars'" tectonic success. Central to the film was the "Liabe" was a mothership/carrier craft used to transport two smaller fighters: the boxy "Comet Fire" and the sleek "Galaxy Runner." Its wings would fold open to position the smaller fighters in an upright position just prior to launch.
