About the Design
As part of its entry into the U.S. Navy Convoy Fighter Competition of 1951, Lockheed Aircraft took several routes before settling on what became the XFV-1 "Salmon." One of its earlier iterations was the L-200-5, a fighter that bore more the cursory resemblance to the "Salmon," but which was somewhat smaller and streamlined.
