About the Design
Alexander Lippisch (1894-1976) was one of Nazi Germany's most imaginative and prolific aircraft designers. Specializing in delta-winged aircraft, he helped create the rocket-powered Messerschmitt Me.163 and, after moving to America, the Convair XF-92A.
Many of his concepts never made it past the design stage, including the P.15-06. Like the similar P.15-05, this small jet-powered interceptor was distinguished by a horn-like cockpit under which the pilot would lie in a prone position. But in this variation, the pilot sat in the center of the aircraft, not up in the nose. The plane had no internal landing gear but would have been launched off a trolley, then belly-land. |
