Klingon K'Tinga-Class Battle Cruiser
from "Star Trek: The Motion Picture" (1979)
About the Design
Making its first appearance in the opening scene of "Star Trek - The Motion Picture," the K'tinga-Class Battle Cruiser was basically a TOS D-7 hyper-detailed and given a modern "Aztec"-style paint job. The ship would make another appearance -- this time with a very colorful exterior treatment -- as Chancellor Gorkon's flagship in 1991's "Star Trek VI - The Undiscovered Country," as well as in several early episodes of "Star Trek: The Next Generation."

About the Kit
First released in 1979 in conjunction with "ST:TMP," the K't'inga disappeared until resurrected with new box art by AMT/Ertl for ST-VI in 1991. The model's detailing seemed over-stated in parts, and lacking in others, especially on the forward "bulb" where details around the photon torpedo launcher clearly visible on the studio model were crudely simulated by a two-piece, burnt-orange decal.
This model was built from an original 1979 issue. |
