About the Design
In just two years -- 1966 and 1967 -- Italian director Antonio Margheriti released four science fiction films all set the same far future "universe." Today known as the "Gamma One Quadrilogy" after the eponymous wheel-shaped space station that served as the series' "home," all four films -- Wild, Wild Planet, War of the Planets, War Between the Planets, and Snow Devils -- used the same characters, actors, props, and sets.
Due to the series' low budget, many of the films' spaceships were simply repurposed plastic model kits purchased at local hobby stores. However, Margheriti did spring for a few custom miniatures, including this towering winged rocketship clearly modeled after Dr. Werner Von Braun's concepts from the early 1950s. |
