About the Design

Featured in The Expanse Season Two episode "Drive," the Epstein Yacht was the experimental testbed inventor/entrepreneur Solomon Epstein used to assess the new high-efficiency engine that would eventually bear his name. According to lore, the yacht was actually a five-year old private spacecraft that Epstein purchased and modified for innovatory purposes.

In Epstein's first test flight, his new high-efficiency drive proved so powerful that it sent him careening out of control into the empty vastness of space. Fortunately, his doomed flight was closely monitored by his wife, the resulting telemetry sufficient to correct the engine's shortcomings and produce the innovative propulsion system that would soon become the standard for spacecraft throughout the Solar System.

About the Kit

The 1:144 Epstein Yacht kit was released by Fantastic Plastic Models in May 2024. This combination cast and 3D-printed resin model kit was designed in CAD by Carl Darby and cast by Creative Cast Parts.
