Cylon Raider
from "Battlestar Galactica" (2003-2009)
About the Design
When the creators of the Sci-Fi Channel's remake of a certain 1970s sci-fi classic decided to "re-imagine" the series, they updated not only the premise, characters and storyline, but the technology as well. Gone were the greeblie-covered flying saucers piloted by the chrome-plated robots of the old series; the new "Raiders" were not only far more sinister in appearance, but they were autonomous, self-aware cyborgs. With metal exteriors and organic interiors, these raiders were "alive" in every sense. And, as we learned in the series' 2nd Season, when "killed," a Raider's programming was "downloaded" to a central processing center so it could be "resurrected" in a new body -- its memories and experiences intact.

About the Kit
Released by Fantastic Plastic Models in spring 2006, the "Galactic Raider" was the first FP kit to be based on a movie or TV vehicle design. Mastered by Alfred Wong, the kit was extensively rescribed by BLAP! Models, which also did the casting.
This kit is no longer in production. This model was built from an original issue. |
