Cylon Base Ship
from "Battlestar Galactica" (2003-2009)
About the Design
When the Sci-Fi Channel's "re-imagined" Battlestar Galactica premiered in 2003, fans of the original 1970s TV series were initially shocked by the often radical redesign of their favorite spacecraft. No departure from form was quite as radical as that of the Cylon Base Ship, home for humanity's robotic enemies and their "Raider" warriors. Originally little more than two greeblie-covered Frisbees stuck atop one another, the "re-imagined" Base Ship retained the original's "double-decker" look, but replaced the saucers with more alien (and sinister) Y-shaped bodies set diametrically opposed to the other. Almost organic in texture, the Base Ship design made it obvious to viewers that this wasn't your father's BSG anymore.

About the Kit
Released by Fantastic Plastic Models in September 2009, the Cylon Base Ship was one of the last hand-created patterns produced by Scott Lowther. The kit came with three "battle damaged" arms so builders could create the "rogue" Base Ship that become part of Galactica's "Rag Tag Fleet" in the show's final season.
This model was built from an original issue. |
