Commando Cody Rocketship
from "Commando Cody - Sky Marshall of the Universe" (1953)
About the Design
Commando Cody was the titular hero of several 12-part theatrical serials produced by Republic Studios during the early 1950s. In addition to his trademark rocketpack, Cody flew to his various adventures aboard his unnamed "rocketship," a finned, bullet-shaped throwback to the horizontally launched rocketships of the Flash Gordon/Buck Rogers serials of the 1930s. Miniature work for the series was done by Howard Lydecker who, along with his brother Theodore, was responsible for some of the most notable miniature effects of the mid-20th century.
