About the Design
As World War II drew to a close, Boeing Aircraft Corp. turned its attention to civilian aircraft. One of their more unusual concepts was the L-15, an STOL (Short Take-Off & Landing) "liaison" aircraft designed primary for aerial observation and the transporting of high-ranking officials.
The plane was unusual in that it featured a small, helicopter-like fuselage supported by two long overhead wings and a large, angled tail boom. In all, only 12 "Scouts" were built. All were first sent to the U.S. Army for field testing. They later ended up working for the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service in Alaska. |
