About the Design
Beginning in 1944, a series of "flying saucer"-style fighters were purportedly built and tested at the Prag-Kbley aerodrome in Czechoslovakia. These "disc-blade" aircraft used a BMW 003 jet engine to spin eight aluminum blades around a circular cockpit to create a helicopter-like life effect.
The Flugelrad II. V.1 was the second test model built in the series. Built in 1945, it eschewed the problematic rudder featured in the first design. |
