Cylon Base Star from "Battlestar Galactica" (1978-1979)
About the Design
The Basestar was the Cylon's equivalent of the humans' Battlestar; it was a massive launch platform from which hundreds of Raiders could be launched toward any number of enemy targets.
Of all the designs created for "Battlestar Galactica" (1978), this was arguably the least inspired: It looked like four Frisbees glued together and then detailed with plastic model kits parts. |
About the Kit
The Cylon Basestar was one of four "Battlestar Galactica" models released soon after the show's September 1978 premiere. It was a simple kit, consisting of four discs, two end caps, a few detail pieces and an inadequate stand. Like all the "BSG" kits, it was released with new box art by Revell/Monogram in the mid-1990s, and then by Revell in 2008 before it lost the BSG license to Moebius.
This model is from the original 1978 release. |
