Astral Queen Prison Barge from "Battlestar Galactica" (1978-1979)
About the Design
Originally known simply as the "Prison Barge," this was a government-owned transport ship that was carrying 500 felons to their parole hearings at the time of the Cylon attack on the 12 Colonies. Surviving the onslaught, it managed to rendezvous with the Battlestar "Galactica" and several dozen other ships to form the so-called "Rag-Tag Fleet" that together left Colonial space in search of the legendary planet called "Earth."
The "Prison Barge" was duplicated intact by the creators of the Sci-Fi Channel "Battlestar Galactica" remake in 2003. Given the name "Astral Queen," the barge now carried a complement of 1,500 prisoners, among them being Tom Zarek, an anti-government revolutionary/terrorist who subsequently played a key role of the Colonial administration. |
About the Kit
The "Prison Barge" was mastered by Scott Spicer and produced by TimeSlip Creations in the same scale as its 1970s-issue "Battlestar Galactica" kit. A simple two-piece model with excellent detail, it was part of an ongoing series of in-scale kits designed to duplicate the Galactica's famous "Rag-Tag Fleet."
This model was built by an original issue. |
