Airwolf Helicopter from "Airwolf" (1984-1986)
About the Design
Many a hit movie has been followed by a TV adaptation – even if the hit wasn’t the producer's own. In this case, the success of “Blue Thunder” in 1983 led CBS to commission the similarly themed “Airwolf” – the irony being that “Airwolf” proved to be significantly more popular than ABC’s own “Blue Thunder” TV adaptation. (It sure had a better theme music!)
Heavily armed and capable of supersonic flight, the super-secret “Airwolf” was actually a Bell 222 corporate helicopter tricked out to look like a high-tech killing machine. |
About the Kit
Released in conjunction with “Airwolf”’s fall 1984 release, the AMT/Ertl model kit stayed in production throughout the life of the popular series and remained readily available for many years thereafter. The molds were subsequently picked up by several Asian companies, including Aoshima and Kitech, which continue to offer the kit for sale.
This model was built from an original issue. |
