About the Design
The biggest surprise hit of Summer 2014 was Marvel's "Guardians of the Galaxy." A good old-fashioned space shoot-'em-up featuring an unlikely band of misfit heroes, the film earned $774 million worldwide, placing it third on Marvel Studio's all-time hit list.
"Guardians" had an unique design ethos, featuring spaceships that bristled with colorful wings and fins that served no apparent purpose other than to look cool. The "hero" ship was The Milano, piloted by self-proclaimed "Star-Lord" Peter Quill (Chris Pratt.) The ship was purportedly named after TV actress Alyssa Milano, Quill's boyhood crush just prior to his abduction by aliens. |
