Earth Alliance Starfury Fighter
from "Babylon 5" (1994-1998)
About the Design
The Starfury was the principal Earth Alliance tactical fighter used on the "Babylon 5" TV series. The design was reportedly inspired by "The Last Starfighter's" Gunstar, designed by Rod Cobb. One truly unique aspect of this design was that the pilot stood upright instead of residing in the traditional sitting position, ostensibly to better withstand the high-g forces that often resulted from the ship's tight turns. The cockpit could also eject from the main craft and function as a lifeboat.
Starfuries appeared in a variety of paint schemes depending on the roles and temperaments of their pilots.
About the Kit
Revell/Monogram had planned to produce a whole series of "Babylon 5" model kits, but sluggish sales for its first two releases -- this Starfury and the Babylon 5 space station -- scuttled those plans.
Which is a shame. This Starfury kit was a great build, one that offered numerous options for customization. The extensive decal sheet allowed the builder to choose three separate design schemes. (This model is decorated as a Presidential escort.) A subsequent "Special Edition" provided the builder with even more decorating options.
This model was built from an original issue.
