ABOUT THE KIT |
The world's first ballistic missile, the A-4 rocket -- later dubbed the V-2 ( for Vengeance 2) -- was powered by a mixture of 75% ethyl alcohol and water, and 25% liquid oxygen. Unlike the Fieseler Fi-103 V-1 that used a mechanical guidance system, the V-2's flight path was guided by a sophisticated gyroscopic apparatus. (Not that it made the missile any more accurate.) Developed by German rocket pioneer Dr. Werner Von Braun, the A-4 served as the basis for America's entire rocket program during the Cold War, beginning with the WAC Corporal (a minimally modified A-4) to the Jupiter C to the mighty Saturn V. |
Although many A-4/V-2 kits have been released by various companies over the years, this 1/38-scale edition by DML is certainly one of the largest. This model was built from an original issue. |
