Nord Griffon II at Mach 1 |
ABOUT THE DESIGN |
ABOUT THE KIT |
The Nord 1500 Griffon II was one of several high-performance experimental aircraft built by France during the 1950s. This particular aircraft combined a turbojet with a ramjet to achieve speeds of Mach 2.19. First flown in September 1955, the Nord 1500 Griffon II made approximately 200 test flights before it was retired in 1959. |
Released in 2002, this mixed-media kit consisted of injection-molded polystyrene pieces for the main body, resin cockpit pieces, etched brass detailing, white metal (lead) landing gear and a vacuform canopy. The plastic itself was unusually "soft" -- almost rubbery -- and the decals were quite brittle. Extreme care was required to produce a display-worthy model. This model was built from an original issue. |
