ABOUT THE DESIGN: | ABOUT THE MODEL: | |
Messerschmitt's Me.P.1101
program was focused on developing a variable-wing jet fighter that
could take on the best of the late-War American and British air forces.
The 101 model was one of the later incarnations; it featured a long,
tapered fuselage with powered by four 109-011 turbojets, two mounted below
the nose and two at the tail. Armaments were to consist of four MK 108
30mm cannons in the nose plus remote-controlled turrets. Of course, the plane's most distinguishing features were its swing-wings, which would all it to land on short runways while accelerating to near supersonic speeds during interception missions. Like so many ambitious aircraft projects during this period, the Me.P.1101/101 never made it past the design stage. |
