ABOUT THE DESIGN: | ABOUT THE MODEL: | |
In the early 1950s,
before the advent of the modern combat helicopter, Martin Aviation
proposed building a light, simple dual-jet aircraft that could be used for
close air support in combat operations. Flying at low altitudes, the
Mighty Midget could be used against ground troops, enemy armor and fixed
fortifications. Its technical simplicity would have allowed for fast and
efficient maintenance by ground crews.
Due the plane's narrow profile, the pilot would have lied prone. The cockpit capsule was designed to be jettisoned and return to earth by parachute in the event the main airframe was critically damaged. |
