ABOUT THE DESIGN: | ABOUT THE MODEL: | |
Late in World War II, Nazi Germany was frantic to find a cost-effective way to counter the Allied bombers that were decimating the Fatherland. Numerous "Volksjaeger" (People's Fighter) projects were proposed by Germany's major aircraft manufacturers. This was Junker's proposal, a single-engine jet fighter that could be built from non-strategic materials (i.e. wood) and flown by pilots with only minimal training. Ultimately, the Volksjaeger contract went to Heinkel with its He.162 Salamander. |
