ABOUT THE DESIGN: | ABOUT THE MODEL: | |
Designed in 1943, the Do.P.252 was resubmitted to the Luftwaffe in 1945 for consideration as a high-speed night fighter. Carrying a three-man crew (including radar operator), the Do.P.252 originally had two side-mounted air scoops that would feed its internal Jumo 213J 12-cylinder engines that drove two sets of rear-mounted counter-rotating propellers. The scoops were relocated to the fuselage's rear dorsal area in a subsequent design. Although the P.252/2 offered excellent pilot visibility, the Luftwaffe wanted a turbo-jet design, and so passed on this project. |
