ABOUT THE DESIGN: | ABOUT THE MODEL: | |
The F.11/37 was Bristol Aircraft's first layout for the twin-engine heavy fighter project that would eventually result in the Type 156 Beaufighter. Originally conceived as an "interim fighter" to operate until the Westland Whirlwind could be ready for combat, the F.11/37 was designed to be built mostly out of components already in Bristol Aircraft's inventory. The plane's most distinguishing features was the large, bulbous turret situated mid-fuselage designed to house its twin machine-guns. Its set-back cockpit also gave it a unique, sporty look. |
