ABOUT THE DESIGN: | ABOUT THE MODEL: | |
The Boulton Paul P.99 was one of several high-performance fighter concepts the British Royal Air Force explored during World War II. The P.99 was a twin-boom concept chosen to give the pilot maximum visibility. Thrust was to be provided by a Griffon engine powering two counter-rotating rear-mounted propellers. It was already known that America's P.38 Lightning, also a twin-boom fighter, suffered from "tail flutter." Boulton Paul engineers concluded that using counter-rotating propellers would eliminate this problem. |
