Beginning in 1944, a series of
"flying saucer"-style fighters were reportedly built and tested at the
Prag-Kbley aerodrome in Czechoslovakia. These "disc blade" aircraft
used a BMW 003 jet engine to spin aluminum blades around a circular
cockpit creating a helicopter-like lift effect. The Flugelrad II V.2 was the third test model in the series. Built in 1945, it was a two-man fighter powered by two BMW 003 engines. |
