ABOUT THE DESIGN

ABOUT THE KIT

Named for famed German rocketplane designer Dr. Eugene Sänger, this European two-stage orbital transport system employed a turbo ram-jet powered launch vehicle ("Cargus") and a smaller manned reusable payload orbiter ("Horus").  Both vehicles were designed to land like conventional airplanes.  Except for the fact that it launched horizontally rather than vertically, this system was conceptually little different from the two-stage Orbital Passenger Rocket proposed by Willy Ley back in the 1950s

This unique kit was released by Revell of Germany in 1991.  The kit was available briefly in the United States and continues to appear with comfortable frequency on Ebay and other collector sites.  The model represents one of the few forays into conceptual spacecraft models made during the 1990s.

This model was built from an original issue.
