ABOUT THE DESIGN |
ABOUT THE KIT |
Whereas his companion C-3PO was meant to represent the classic human-like robot of old, R2-D2 was a purely contemporary "astromech" 'droid whose function determined its form. Resembling a tank-style vacuum cleaner, the plucky little machine drew much of its design inspiration from the squat little service robots Huey, Louie and Dewy featured in Douglas Trumball's low budget eco-classic "Silent Running" (1972). |
This was another "first generation" "Star Wars" kit that ended up being reissued several times between 1978 and 1983. This model is an original 1978 issue. |
