ABOUT THE DESIGN |
ABOUT THE KIT |
Based on the Edward E. Doc “Smith” “Lensman” novels, the Japanese 1984 “Lensman” anime feature – and the 1987 TV series it spawned – featured some truly breathtaking spaceship designs. Among them was this odd-looking cargo/utility craft, the personal vessel of the merchant Buskirk, an amalgam of blocks, cylinders and hemispheres. It was meant to look clunky – and it did. |
Produced by Tomy of Japan, the “Lensman” models series was not broadly released in the U.S. but individual items did manage to make their way stateside via various mail order companies. This particular kit was extremely small and paled in comparison to the larger, far more attractive Britannia II. This model was built from an original issue. |
