The 1953 George Pal version of "The War of the Worlds" differed markedly from the H.G. Wells original.  The principal setting was changed from Victorian England to modern-day Southern California.  Humans fought with tanks, flying wings and A-bombs instead of crude 19th Century armaments.  And perhaps most noticeable of all, the famed Martian "tri-pods" were replaced with these sleek, manta ray-shaped "war machines" that levitated via invisible "force beams."  However, Wells'  notorious "heat ray" was still intact, here contained within a sinister flexible "cobra head."

In the mid-1990s, Skyhook Models released this simple but well-engineered resin version of this George Pal classic.  The kit came complete with "devastated city" base and an acrylic support rod.

This model was built from an early 21st Century issue.
