ABOUT THE KIT |
Based on the Edward E. "Doc" Smith “Lensman” novels, the Japanese 1984 “Lensman” anime feature – and the 1987 TV series it spawned – featured some truly breathtaking spaceship designs. First and foremost was the Britannia II, this galactic battle cruiser that boasted lines that were unique both for motion pictures and Japanese animation. Highly angular and lacking the bristling armory usually associated with Japanese spacecraft of this era, the Britannia looks as sleek and menacing today as it did nearly 20 years ago.. |
Produced by Tomy of Japan, the “Lensman” models series was not broadly released in the U.S. but individual items did manage to make their way stateside via various mail order companies. The kit itself was very well engineered and featured a particularly attractive clue blue plastic base. This model was built from an original issue. |
