Boeing Bird of Prey Test Flight

ABOUT THE DESIGN

ABOUT THE KIT

Boeing's "Bird of Prey" was an advanced "technology demonstrator" designed to test the latest in stealth architecture and low-maintenance airfoil designs.  The one-man aircraft featured a tailless gull-wing design with the kind of recessed engine exhausts now a standard feature on stealth aircraft.  Test flown between 1996 and 1999 at the Air Force's top secret Groom Lake facility in Nevada, the plane was not even revealed to the public until 2002, at which point it had already been retired.  Lessons learned from the Bird of Prey are expected to be integrated into the next generation of American advanced technology fighters.

This is an all-resin kit from Igor Shestakov's UNICRAFT company, headquartered in Ukraine.  Released in early 2003, it was the first -- and so far the only -- model of this striking X-plane released by any model kit manufacturer.

This model was built from an original issue.
